Purpose The R&D Engineering Technician provides semi-professional technical support for engineers supporting in such areas as research programs, equipment design, test development, and testing. The work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment. Engineering technicians prepare drawings and sketches; assist with the design and development of test equipment and/or modifications of machinery and equipment for the conduct of testing and collection of data. Engineering technicians help develop post-test processing procedures for test data reduction and presentation.

Assist in the development of proposals and plans for research programs
Coordinate project schedule changes and scope of work with project teams
Control and monitor cost, progress, and quality of assigned projects
Assist in presentation and report preparation
Assemble or install equipment or parts requiring simple writing, soldering, or connecting
Record test data
Conduct a variety of tests, prepares test specimens, adjusts and operates equipment, and records test data
Extract engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources, processes, and presents data
Follow safety procedures; wear protective equipment including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes
Assists in design modifications
Extracts and compiles engineering data and identifies errors or inconsistencies
Conducts various tests
Support TRC Inc.’s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts
Qualifications
High school diploma is required
Associate’s degree in a technology discipline is preferred
Recognized certification(s) and minimum five years related experience or 10 years demonstrated expertise in applied disciplines is preferred
Practical knowledge and experience of electronics applications
Practical knowledge of science or engineering
Proficient in the use of test equipment and/or tools and machinery
Valid driver’s license
Excellent communication skills
Basic computer skills

Physical requirements
Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
