Overview

The Optometrist possesses strong diagnostic skills and a passion for delivering patient care to pediatric patients. The optometrist will see patients independently, help decrease the waiting time for a complete eye exam appointment, demonstrate competency in the evaluation and treatment of eye disorders, and have a strong desire to work with children and provide age-appropriate care to patients from birth through age 21 year. Our optometrists serve in a tertiary care pediatric ophthalmology team.

Responsibilities

* Performs exams in the Eye Clinic at the outpatient care center on main campus of Nationwide Children's Hospital, as well as our school-based vision centers.
* Performs medical evaluations of the eye, dilated fundus exams, retinoscopy, and prescribes eyeglasses. Prescribes medications within scope when necessary.
* Maintains interest and enthusiasm in providing care for children and provides education about eye diseases, disorders, and their treatment.
* Applies the principles of growth and development in the examination of each patient.
* Participates in research conducted by the Department of Ophthalmology.

Qualifications

Education: Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an Accredited School of Optometry, required.

Licensure Requirement:
*License to practice Optometry in the State of Ohio, required.
*Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Experience:
* Experience conducting eye exams on children and babies, required.
* Residency training and pediatric clinical experience, preferred.
