Job Description-

Research Scientist to establish and direct independent research projects in the Department of Neurosurgery; conceptualizes, designs, implements and directs research program in human neurophysiology, including analysis of neurophysiology recordings and performing experiments that include intracranial electrical stimulation and cognitive neuroscience tasks; develops, writes and submits grant proposals of original research as principal investigator or co-investigator to extramural funding agencies to obtain significant salary and research support from outside funding agencies; develops, adopts, optimizes, and implements new laboratory methods; develops hypothesis and experimental approach to hypothesis testing; plans, designs and conducts complex experiments; extracts, compiles, analyzes and evaluates data to establish relevance to the problems being evaluated; administers grants; directs and manages grant budgets; manages laboratory; writes manuscripts, articles, abstracts and research reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals; attends and presents research findings at national and international scientific conferences; develops and conducts educational workshops, lectures and seminars; collaborates with other researchers, graduate students and technicians within laboratory. Requires a successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

Minimum Education Required
Doctorate (Academic) or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in Biological Sciences, Neurosciences, Neurophysiology, or Engineering

Demonstrated ability to be a productive researcher required, as evident by publication record, citation of research by others, presentations to scientific organizations or contributions to the research field; submits grant proposals as Principal Investigator for ongoing studies and to obtain funding in support of these studies. Experience with human neurophysiology data acquisition and processing, signal analysis, and computational neuroscience (with proficiency in programming in MATLAB or Python), preferred. Areas of exploration include neurophysiologic studies of human brain connectivity, network analysis, brain stimulation, and cognitive neuroscience. Research environment allows for collaboration across departments as well as high-level cooperation with clinical teams.
