Job Description

Tenured research faculty position in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (GHN); serves as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on sponsored research grants and on original research projects; conceptualizes, plans, designs, implements and conducts research studies in the area of GI diseases, including liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and/or neuro-gastroenterology; develops and writes grant proposals to seek and obtain funding to support research program; secures and maintains NIH RO1 or equivalent funding; writes and publishes research in high quality peer reviewed, scientific journals; attends and makes presentations of research at national and international scientific conferences; develops national and international scholarly reputation; instructs and mentors junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents and fellow trainees; participates in division, department, college and university committees and initiatives.

The GHN Division has several highly specialized sections including, but not limited to: transplant hepatology, liver diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, pancreatic diseases, GI motility disorders, and GI cancers. Several Faculty members of the Division are currently involved in clinical and basic science research primarily funded by the National Institutes of Health, but also industry, foundation grants and intramural sources.

The academic rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) will depend on the candidates research accomplishments. A highly competitive recruiting package is available to candidates.

Qualifications

Required: PhD, MD, MD/PhD degree, or their equivalent. Candidates should have a strong research track record of high-level peer-reviewed publications and ongoing research funding.

This position will be considered for Research Tenured Track.

Tenure faculty (regardless of rank)- persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty members tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.
