Overview

The Specialist II is responsible for working with the section supervisors, manager and Service Line Administrator to maintain technical and procedural operations in the Section; performing quality control, quality improvement and regulatory compliance tasks; and assisting the supervisor with his/her responsibilities, particularly training, competency, quality assurance, and project development/ implementation.

Responsibilities
    Oversees safety program and policies, including chemical inventory for the offsite labs.
  • Coordinates Laboratory Safety training and education for all laboratory staff members.
  • Represents the offsite labs on hospital-wide committees, including but not limited to ZH/Safety Coach, Emergency Preparedness.
  • Oversees and maintains competency program for all offsite lab employees
  • Develops and maintains training program for offsite labs.
  • Oversees S.A.F.E. program as well as scheduling of all patients.
  • Assists Manager by serving as a liaison with the college of American Pathologists (CAP) and may help coordinate the inspections by CAP for all laboratory locations. Assists Manager with the Laboratory Inspection Team to prepare for inspections, this includes the self-inspections performed during non-survey years.
  • Develops, writes, reviews and updates procedures as requested.
Qualifications

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science; or a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution, required.
  • Certifications: American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification, preferred. Skills:
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Effective organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills to produce reports and graphs as needed. Demonstrates discipline-specific technical skills.
  • Promotes a team environment and maintains a cooperative and supportive atmosphere
  • Experience: Three years experience in a similar laboratory, required
