We are looking for a Sample Receiving Supervisor in 2057 Builders Place, Columbus, OH 43204 USA. Your mission will be to:

Purpose (Objective):
The incumbent is responsible for the daily activities of sample receiving personnel. This individual is responsible for all aspects of Sample Receiving Department operations.

Main activities:

*Arrange work schedule of the sample receiving personnel to ensure that tasks are completed correctly and within specified time limits. Verify that sample is checked in correctly.
*Supervise the activities of the sample receiving personnel to ensure efficiency of the check in desk.
*Address client concerns, identify their requirements and obtain necessary documentation for analysis.
*Educate and train sample-receiving personnel on correct sample entry procedures.
*Evaluate current sample entry procedures and recommend modifications, as new procedures become available.
*Answer questions from client and laboratory personnel concerning how sample is to be checked in.
*Maintain inventory of sampling supplies.
*Assist couriers with routing and needed materials.
*Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.
*Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process.
*This position has the responsibility and authority to initiate action to prevent or minimize departures from the quality system or test procedures. This authority includes addressing resource needs to properly address issues such as client turn- around time requirements, overtime limits, employee turnover, work stoppage and assure the appropriate type and amount of materials are ready and available for use.
*Perform other related duties as needed.

YOUR PROFILE

Profile:
This position requires a general knowledge of food science, obtained from a degree or related job experience. A broad knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to ensure accurate entry and proper documentation. Supervisory skills are essential to secure proper and efficient daily operation of assigned tasks. This position requires fully developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interface with clients and build departmental relationships. Client empathy and a general knowledge of service attributes that support high client satisfaction is required to provide proactive and responsive service to clients. Planning skills are needed to ensure that sample is received properly for future procedures.

Required skills:
The incumbent coordinates the activities of the sample-receiving department to ensure that sample is processed and documentation is prepared for analysis. Attention to detail is imperative to ensure that the correct testing process is performed. Missing documentation or samples require the incumbent to trace the receiving process until they are found. Standard Operating Procedures and previous experience provide information to determine the correct
procedure to pursue. Coordination of departmental activities with those of other departments is necessary to accomplish accurate analysis.

The incumbent makes decisions for the sample-receiving department to function properly. Written company procedures and policies, SOP manuals, and well known precedents provide guidelines to solve departmental difficulties. The incumbent must analyze each situation and determine the best alternative course of action. Revision of a decision is made by consulting the supervisor or appropriate department before taking any action. Impact can be felt by the
clients, department technicians and laboratory expenses if sample is delayed or incorrectly entered through increased expenses and cost of testing procedures.

The incumbent receives general supervision. Receiving tasks must remain on schedule to avoid late or inaccurate sample. Workload changes are made to accomplish such requirements. The incumbent is responsible for reaching specific goals and targets established by the incumbent together with the supervisor.

Management:
The incumbent supervises the activities of receiving and client service support staff. Responsibilities include training, completing performance appraisals, disciplining, assigning work, and evaluating accuracy of the results. The supervisor coordinates activities of the department with those of other departments.

Work Environment:
The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. The incumbent is required to lift 10-50 pounds of sample as they are received. This individual works extensively with the computer on a daily basis to obtain and enter information. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position.
