Job Description

Scope of Position

The Lead Radiation Physicist in Radiation Oncology is responsible for providing leadership in clinical or other practice areas within the Medical Physics group to help Chief Physicist in department operations. This includes specification and acquisition of all radiation generating equipment, calibration of the treatment machines and acquisition and maintenance of all dosimetry and health-physics equipment. Reviews OSU radiation treatment charts, initiates, and manages departmental clinical developmental projects for new treatments and instructs personnel in principles and regulations related to radiation therapy physics, dosimetry and radiation protection. Has developed leadership and expertise in one or several specific modalities or processes with both documented experience and evidence of leadership and expertise and the ability to independently manage operations in these areas.

Position Summary

Under supervision of the Chief Physicist, provides clinical leadership in professional medical physics services at the Department of Radiation Oncology (or its outreach/affiliates) of the Medical Center. Leads and performs pre-clinical and clinical innovation and development of advanced and novel treatment technologies, including Complex Radiation Therapy procedures, SRS/SRT/SBRT, Brachytherapy, Proton Therapy, and FLASH Therapy. Evaluates and interprets medical radiation treatment prescriptions. Collaborates with medical providers in the design and modification of effective radiation treatments for patients; oversees and monitors treatment plans developed by Dosimetrists, and participates in development and execution of equipment monitoring, calibration, and safety surveys. Provide technical assistance in the development of treatment plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy; monitor patients; develops and maintains established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement, and safety. Participates with other leads in developing clinical management schedules and ensures smooth clinical operations within the department.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology. 8+ years of post residency experience in Therapy Medical Physics, with experience in functional or technical leadership.

Ongoing: Meets standards and competencies of the job as assigned and required. Maintains board certification by the American Board of Radiology.
