Description

The Department of Theatre at Denison University invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track position. We seek a colleague with the ability to lead the process of making theatre or performance in an academic context, contributing to our laboratory production season. The successful candidate will have teaching experience and the ability to contribute to our core courses in theatre-making and other areas of our curriculum, including acting. We recognize that teaching experience may take many different forms. We strongly encourage applications from candidates with a demonstrated commitment to serving and mentoring a diverse student population. We are open to a range of fields in theatre-making and look forward to receiving applications from candidates whose focus is in European-influenced theatre practices as well as those whose theatre-making is rooted in African, Asian and Pacific Islander, Indigenous peoples of the Americas, Latinx/e and/or international traditions.

The faculty of Denison's Department of Theatre believe in a philosophy of theatre education that centers on the idea of the theatre-maker, in which collaborative, generative, and creative work is at the heart of theatre and performance. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses at beginning, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate levels while leading theatre production experiences in our laboratory curriculum. Successful Denison professors will also conduct an active program of artistic or research scholarship and contribute meaningful service and leadership to the department, college, and discipline. Candidates considered for senior appointments will have records as proficient teachers, significant accomplishments as artists and/or scholars, and a history of successful mentorship of colleagues, collaboration with expert artistic and administrative staff, and leadership in academic or artistic institutions. Tenured and tenure-track professors at Denison teach five courses per year. In the Department of Theatre, directing or leading a theatre project in our production laboratory season is the equivalent of teaching one course.
